The Great Escape: The Book's even better than the Movie!
While in Germany, I read The Great Escape by Paul Brickhill, the original book that was made into one of the greatest movies ever.
Amazingly enough, the book was even more enjoyable than the movie. Written by one of the POWs, the book shows that as bad as the struggles of the Allied prisoners seemed in the movie, they were far worse in reality. The heroism and dedication of the Allied POWs were truly awe-inspiring. This story needs to be told to more people.
In a nice touch, the book also detailed the search to find those responsible for the murders of those escapees who were murdered by the Nazis for their escape attempt. These trials became part of the Nuremburg trials after the war. This made sure the full story was told. It's a quick, but good, read. If you enjoyed the movie, you'll love the book.
