Light Posting Next Few Days

I'll be in a SharePoint 2007 training class the first part of the week and so will not be posting during the day. Comments will be set back to moderated because I seem to be under a massive spam attack the last few days.

How do people find me?

I poked through my web reports to see what search terms were leading people to my site and found some interesting ones:

* 42% of search engine related hits this month came from the phrase "baptism immersion vs sprinkling". There's a lot better sources out there than me on that one.
* "Cats are evil" was 4th on the list. Because they are.
* Some others near the top: catholic pickup lines, von hayes, nerdy pickup lines, mets got rick rolled
* "excuse me stewardess i speak jive"
* "i just blue myself"
* "bishop fulton sheen's writings predicting antichrist will come from catholic bishops" Huh? Although it wouldn't suprise me that Satan would try to bring down the Church of Christ from the inside.
* "the german term meaning the politics of reality used during the late 1800 s to describe a tough calculated brand of politics in which idealism played no part" Again, huh? I"m assuming they mean realpolitik.
* "chris truby blood" That one made me smile, although I wonder what they were looking for.
* "james bovard democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote!" A quote Jeff the Baptist would no doubt love.
* "the supreme court ruled in plessy v. ferguson that underage women must notify their parents of an impending abortion." I don't know where to begin on this one.
* "three true outcomes adam dunn rob deer" I am a fan of the Three True Outcomes.
* "christine o donnell delaware sex" that one frightened me a little
* "child masturbation" ditto
* "cat shootin" A person after my own heart
* "chuck kruse" If whoever was searching for him knows him, tell him to drop me a line.

Oops

THis morning while cleaning up some spam comments I accidentally junked 19 non-spam comments. I think I restored 16 of them, but to find the remainder, I'd have to manually search through over 2000 junk comments and who's to say I wouldn't still miss them. So I apologize and I assure you I wasn't trying to "censor" anybody. I just screwed up.

Comment Spam

I expect some comment spam. It goes with the territory of blogging. But the person who jsut submitted comment spam promising nude pictures of Dakota Fanning is just sick.

Getting a pat on the back

Delaware today named Gazizza one of the "10 Delacentric blogs you've got to see." I wouldn't have put myself up there. I'm guessing as one of only a few blogs that discusses religion, they put me in to broader more broad category-wise.

Thanks to Hube for pointing this out.

Note: Delaware Today has one of the more obnoxious registration processes I've ever seen. (Why on earth would they need our mother's maiden name?) If that sort of thing doesn't appeal to you, you might want to scream "bug me not".

Part of a group blog

I was recently asked to join a group blog called Friends of Catholic Exchange, over at CatholicExchange.com. They're one of my favorite Catholic websites, presenting a variety of Catholic views, but always in accord with Church teaching. I'm not exactly sure how they found me (and less sure of why), but I agreed to be part of the group blog. My lovely girlfriend suggested that it was because I was part of the Catholic B-Team, which I'm a little disappointed I didn't think of.

I'll be cross-posting some thoughts from time to time on both sites. My first cross-post there is directly below this one.

New Quote of the Day Feature

I've just added the Patriot Post's Founder's Quote of the Day to the front page of my site. So each morning a new quote from one of the Founding Fathers will appear automatically for your viewing pleasure.

When I'm Absolute Dictator...

I created a new category on my blog with the above title. It will mostly reflect things I'd love to see done that I know would never happen. It will mostly be whimsical, pointless things, but will sometimes hold rants.

The first entry in this category is:

When I'm absolute dictator...
....people won't be allowed to vote unless they know how many career home runs Babe Ruth hit.

Comments/Remember Me

I think I have the "Remember Me" functionality working finally, so that those of you who visit frequently won't have to retype your information each time.

One note, though: the way the code is written you'll have to uncheck the "Remember Me" box before you type your name if you don't wish to be remembered. For some reason, when I attempted to automatically check the box for those who wish to be remembered after loading the form, it cleared the other form elements and the only way around that I could find was to check it by default. Sorry. This is why I prefer to do this stuff through server-side code, but Movable Type seems to be very client side heavy when ti comes to comments.

Comment deleting policy update

I forgot about a category of comments I will delete: advertisements. A dating site followed a link to my site and put up a comment on my story about Internet dating saying how their site handles that so stuff like that shouldn't happen.

You want to advertise on my site? Cut me a check.

Gazizza.net has arrived!

I got my first spam comment today. I deleted it, so those of you looking for links about group sex will have to go elsewhere. Sorry for any inconvenience.

General note: i'll only delete comments that are spam or in some way defamatory. or obscene I reserve the right to delete any comment I want, but don't really want to do it ever. Please don't make me.

Blogging Slowdown

Expect less frequent blogging from me over the next few months. We've just started a big project at work which will also have me learning a new programming language. (For techies, I'm finally getting into .NET. VB.NET/ASP.NET 2.0/Microsoft Content Management Server 2002.) That should fill much of my workday, where I would do a lot of my blogging so I'll still be posting, but not as often or as lengthy as I sometimes am.

Blogroll Update

I moved the Catholic B-Team logo to the left side of the page and added a blogroll of all the other Catrholic B-Team members.

Check them out!

Email Update

My email servers are back up and working as of early this morning. If you emailed me since late afternoon Friday, I should eventually get it and respond. They're still being worked through on the server on my end.

Email Still Down

It's been over 25 hours now since I could last check my personal email. I think I'm having DT's.

Email Troubles

If you've tried to email since about 5 PM yesterday, my email has been down due to hardware issues at my email vendor. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Clarification

I am not the P.J. Smith who writes for the Conservative Caucus. I just got a free copy of their newsletter and that reminded me that many people have confused the two of us over the years, especially since my middle initial is also "J". In fact, I don't know him at all, assuming that P.J. Smith is a man.

Welcome!

Welcome to Paul Smith Jr's new blogging home. I got tired of Blogger's issues (downtime, limited features, etc.) and have moved to a hosting provider that supplies Movable Type, a feature-rich blogging environment.

Please update your links and bookmarks to point to this new site, as I will not be maintaining the blogspot site or even visiting it.
